Client Challenge

A leading online higher education institution needed insight
into the Advising practices that support their student success and retention goals. They sought to document their current state processes and identify areas for improvement within the University’s current Advising model. The University was looking for a partner with deep higher education and student retention expertise. They also sought a partner with a firm understanding of the current academic environment, the goals of the Advising departments and how they fit in to the larger goals of the University.

Documented advising processes and maturity of each process across stakeholder groups including pain points, and detailed improvement opportunities for each group

Created “Day in the Life” narratives of Advisors to illustrate process maps more fully

Reviewed Advising web presence and presented opportunities for optimization

Developed an actionable Advising Plan with improved policies, processes, systems enhancements and quick wins for rapid improvement



Partner with Advising stakeholders to document processes and associated pain points within and across groups.

Review existing Advising governance, policies, business processes and systems against University goals and Advising  best practices.

Share findings, discuss recommendations and collaborate with the University partners on the implementation plan.

Based on feedback from the client, refine and finalize recommendations, business policies and processes and implementation plan.
